REUNITED...40 YEARS ON
Monday 07 March, 2005
The legends of West Ham United's greatest-ever triumph will be reunited on Friday, May 20, when EX Magazine hosts a gala dinner to honour the surviving members of the 1964 and 1965 Cup-winning teams.
World Cup winner Martin Peters will be special guest speaker for this momentous reunion, to be held at the Britannia International Hotel, London Docklands.
He will be joined by former team-mates from the Hammers side that defeated TSV Munich 1860 at Wembley on May 19, 1965, including exiles Johnny Sissons and Jim Standen who are flying in from Cape Town and California respectively. especially to attend.
Other claret and blue heroes from that Wembley classic who will be joining us as our VIP guests on the night are: Ken Brown, Ronnie Boyce, Brian Dear, Jack Burkett and Joe Kirkup, who now lives in the south of France.
The star-studded function is also to commemorate the players who made history in 1964 by becoming the first West Ham team to win the FA Cup, after a 3-2 victory over Preston North End. From that victorious Hammers line-up we are delighted to confirm that John Bond, Eddie Bovington and Peter Brabrook, who missed out on the 1965 final but have also accepted invites to attend the dinner.
And we are also very pleased to welcome Mrs Stephanie Moore and Mrs Barbara Sealey, who will be there to represent their late and much lamented husbands, Bobby and Alan, respectively.
This unique occasion, which will include a memorabilia auction, prize raffle and quiz, will be hosted by a more recent Hammers legend, Tony Cottee, who says he will be very proud to be among such all-time club greats.
EX publisher Tony McDonald says: "It will be a very special occasion and I can't wait to see so many former favourites back together again to mark the most successful period in West Ham's history. It will be just over 40 years to the day since Bobby lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup on that magical Wembley night and we thought it was imperative that the players' achievements then, and in the Cup final the previous year, were recognised in such a fitting way.
"With the exception of Sir Geoff Hurst, who unfortunately can not attend because he is already committed to another function elsewhere, all the ex-players are really looking forward to meeting up again. The last time they got together was in sad circumstances, for Bobby's memorial match in 1994, so it's an honour for us to be able to reunite them for a night of celebrations and great memories."
Tickets for the dinner (dress code: lounge suits) are priced £85 each (£850 per table of 10) and they are available direct from EX Magazine (Reunion), Unit 4, Ashton Gate, Ashton Road, Harold Hill, Romford, Essex, RM3 8UF. Cheques made payable to EX Magazine.
You can also book tickets using your credit or debit card by phoning Tony Mac or Danny Francis at EX on our Credit Card Hotline number - 01708 379 877.
