MASTERS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Friday 16 July, 2004
EX-West Ham stars will be on show at Milton Keynes next Sunday, July 25, when they take part in the annual Masters Football Tournament.
A team made up of Upton Park favourites from the 80s and 90s will face Chelsea, Charlton Athletic and Fulham in the London heat of the seven-a-side tournament, which kicks off at the Milton Keynes Planet Ice Arena at 3.00pm.
Starring for the Hammers will be Boys of 86 heroes Tony Cottee, Frank McAvennie, Ray Stewart and George Parris, while the average age of the side will be reduced by Kevin Keen, Steve Potts, Kenny Brown, John Moncur and new recruit Stuart Slater. Striker Steve Whitton completes the line-up, with a goalkeeper still to be confirmed.
Former Hammers winger, Mark Robson, will be in action for Charlton Athletic, where he now works as a Youth Academy coach, while Nigel Winterburn a Premiership player just 18 months ago lines up for Arsenal the previous day in their Southern Masters heat against Spurs, Portsmouth and Southampton.
Should Hammers triumph in their heat, they will go on to take part in the Masters Grand Final, at the Hallam FM Arena in Sheffield on September 5. Already qualified from other regional heats are Coventry City, Wolves, Glasgow Rangers and Middlesbrough.
