AFRICAN CUP STARS
Tuesday 03 February, 2004
Fredi Kanoute is not the only ex-Hammer to make his mark in the current finals of the African Cup of Nations being staged in Tunisia.
Titi Camara scored an 84th minute volley for Guinea, who snatched a late 1-1 draw against Tunisia in Tunis to pip Rwanda to a place in the quarter-finals. It was Camara's third goal of the competition.
Tottenham's Kanoute scored twice on his competitive debut for Mali, in their 3-1 victory against Kenya, and then once again in a 3-1 win against Burkina Faso on Friday to fire the country of his father's birth into the last eight of the tournament.
The quarter-finals will be played on February 7 and 8.
After representing France at under-age level, Kanoute switched to the home of his father when FIFA ruled that players with dual nationality can switch allegiance provided they have not been capped at senior level.
Rigobert Song, now with French club Lens, is once again representing Cameroon at the finals.
